Chin surgery

The chin can be modified following analysis, essentially in profile, and always with an overall view of the faces and in particular an examination of the nose.

We consider separately the specific problems of dental occlusion (position of the teeth and problems related to the relationship between the top and bottom teeth), which may require specific orthodontic or surgical treatment.

Types of surgery

Augmentation
An implant inserted from inside the mouth, and therefore leaving no visible scars, is used to augment a chin that is too small or receding. This is a simple procedure normally carried out under local anaesthesia. In some cases, bone from the chin itself or bone removed from the nose during rhinoplasty can be used for the same purpose.

Reduction
A bone that is too prominent can be reduced through an incision inside the mouth.

After surgery

There is very little postoperative pain. The stitches are of the resorbable type and therefore do not have to be removed.

A "modelling" dressing is kept on the chin for around five days.

Moderate swelling lasts around ten days.

A few bruises may be seen during the first few days.

Conclusion

This is a simple procedure that is regularly associated with nose surgery ("profiloplasty") or a lift to the lower face and neck. It adds to the aesthetic result of overall facial surgery.
